9th Annual Appeal Kicks Off

For the ninth year, Divine Word College seeks support for student centered projects.
EPWORTH – Divine Word College announces the kick-off of the ninth Annual Appeal. This year’s goal of $90,000 will be used to complete a project of replacing 40-year-old dormitory furniture, providing a more comfortable environment for living and learning at Divine Word College. The balance will be used to create handicap accessible restroom facilities in the main building.
DWC president, Rev. Michael Hutchins, SVD, says: “Our Annual Appeal accomplishes two important things.  It helps us make basic and needed improvements that directly benefit our students.  Just as importantly, it gives us all a big morale boost.  Knowing that we have alumni and friends out there, who believe in what we’re doing, strongly enough to make a donation, is reassuring indeed.  We can only do what we do because good friends believe in our mission.”
Local steering committee chairperson for 2008 is Doug Stillings, of Dubuque Bank and Trust. “The students at Divine Word College have left their families and cultures for the cornfields of Iowa. They have come to learn our language and customs, and to follow God’s call to serve as shepherds to His flock,” Stillings says. “I know that I am called as well; called to give. Please join me in supporting their education and sacrificial investment in the future of our Catholic faith.”
Divine Word College is an undergraduate Catholic seminary college of the Society of the Divine Word (SVD), educating young men for missionary service as priests or Brothers. In the 2008-2009 school year, twelve countries are represented in the DWC student body.
