DRA grant leads to greater energy efficiency
A grant from the Dubuque Racing Association (DRA) helped Divine Word College replace aging and inefficient kitchen refrigerator/freezer units, which were installed when the college was built more than 50 years ago. The walls of the long-outdated units were buckling and the doors sometimes required a hammer to open, all of which contributed to a waste of electricity.

“Divine Word College and the Society of the Divine Word place a high priority on sustainability,” said Fr. Tim Lenchak, SVD, president of the college. “We want to thank the DRA for helping us to install these new refrigeration units, which will certainly help reduce our energy costs long term.”

A DRA grant of $10,000 contributed nearly one-third of the cost of the project.

The Dubuque Racing Association Ltd. (DRA) has been a vital part of the Dubuque community since its inception in 1985. The DRA holds the license for both the greyhound-racing and casino-gaming operations of Mystique, and is the co-licensee for the Diamond Jo Casino. The DRA distributes 100 percent of winnings after expenses; with 50 percent going to area charities, such as through the annual DRA grants, and 50 percent going to the City of Dubuque.
